by the glow of the monitor...

I hope everyone is having a good father's day. Ours has been busy, yet the day is still young, with the summer sun still persisting through our windows. pharmaciesreview.com

We (Kevin and I only, the kids were with their mom this weekend) spent the day with my Dad, Mom, and younger brother in San Francisco. We had lunch at the Rainforest Cafe on The Wharf, and saw the silly performance duo The Umbilical Brothers in THWAK at the Post Street Theatre.

I stumbled upon this idea in David's journal on Mother's Day last month, and thought I would apply it today:

Twenty Things about Dad:

  1. He was born in the Phillippines, the oldest of eight.
  2. He moved to the United States when he was still a toddler.
  3. He speaks primarily English, and can only remember scattered words and phrases in Tagalog.
  4. He has been living in the Bay Area for most of his life.
  5. He used to play the bongo drums, like any deserving hippie should.
  6. He graduated from Cal State Hayward with a degree in Geology.
  7. He has served with both the Navy and Air Force. Most of his military career was with the latter, which he retired from a few years ago.
  8. He is an avid volunteer with the Make A Wish Foundation of the Bay Area.
  9. He has had a moustache as long as I can remember, except for this past April Fool's Day!
  10. He is a prostate cancer survivor, seven years and counting.
  11. He has worked for BART for over 25 years, and plans to retire next year, at the age of 57.
  12. He used to own a motorcycle... I rode around on it with him when I was little. He's very set in buying another one after he retires.
  13. He loves spicy food. We've always been amused how his nose sweats when he eats peppers.
  14. He loves to go to the movies. Him and mom see movies on their opening day almost weekly, and he also often gets passes to SF premieres.
  15. He generally loves the entertainment industry. He knows all the shows, the gossip, and the names better than I.
  16. He is fascinated by technology, computers and gadgets. I think this is where I get it from. ;)
  17. He likes to sew. He's the one that alway hemmed our pants. Maybe it's because the sewing machine is considered a gadget.
  18. He also likes carpentry. His desired object of this past year was a table saw.
  19. He'll willingly eat bagoong and other filipino "delicacies". He's the most adventurous eater I know. ;)
  20. He is a big neatnik, yet my mom calls him a pack rat.
